A Day on the Farm: Thursday, June 12

by Brad Plumb, CMP, Senior Sales Manager, Overland Park Convention Center | Mar 24, 2014

The big yellow school bus rolls into the parking lot, comes to a stop and the double doors open.  Here come the riders.  Some jump off the last step, some look excited, some bewildered.  All of them are looking forward to spending a day-on-the-farm at the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead with members of the PCMA Heartland Chapter.

These are the kids from Operation Breakthrough, the largest non-profit day care in the region.  The children are 4 & 5 years old and they all come from families that live below (some far below) the poverty level.  If they are a cross section of kids served, 25% of them are homeless. They are also the most wonderful, most well behaved, loving preschoolers that you would ever want to call your own.  Living in the inner-city, these kids don’t often get to see an eagle, or feed a goat, or ride a horse. A Day at the Deanna Rose Farmstead will be a day to remember!

It will be our job to watch these children have fun and stay safe. Because 4 and 5 year olds are always on the move, we will constantly be counting heads. Attire is VERY casual. Wear shorts & your walking shoes. Plan to join us on Thursday, June 12th from 9:15-1:30 and leave a little piece of your heart with the preschoolers from Operation Breakthrough at the Deanna Rose Farmstead located off 135th & Switzer in Overland Park.  And an added bonus—Pinstripes at 135th & Nall is hosting all volunteers for lunch and bocce ball after the event!
