A Member Gets More Members - and A Big Reward

By PCMA

linafarrell_newsEarlier this month, leaders from around the meetings industry gathered in Orlando for Convening Leaders. The rave reviews from attendees indicate that everyone enjoyed the experience, but it’s safe to say that Lina Farrell, Director, National Association Sales, Sheraton on the Falls Hotel & Conference Center in Niagara Falls, ON, Canada, may have enjoyed it just a bit more than others.

As the winner of this year’s Member Get A Member campaign, Farrell received the ultimate Convening Leaders experience due to her efforts to grow PCMA’s membership base. In 2012, Farrell recruited nine new members to join the PCMA ranks, and it paid off with a five-night hotel stay, complimentary registration, limo transfer to and from the airport and two roundtrip Delta airline vouchers for use anywhere in the continental United States.

Rewarding In More Ways Than One

While the VIP treatment is always nice, Farrell was rewarded with more than a star-studded meeting experience. She says the insights into the globalization of business at Convening Leaders were equally beneficial for her own continuing education needs.

“With changing times and the world becoming so accessible to everyone through technology, we have to spread our reach further than our own backyards,” Farrell says. “Our future customers and delegates can come from just about anywhere, and we have to be ready and knowledgeable on how to work with them and provide them the experience they are looking for.”

After attending Convening Leaders for nine consecutive years, Farrell says the meeting continues to send her home with new insights into how to create that experience.

“PCMA has really helped me put my product and city on the map, and my customers know I can help them create the perfect conference for their attendees,” Farrell says.

Continuing to Strengthen PCMA’s Canadian Roots

Farrell’s dedication doesn't end with the conclusion of this year’s Member Get A Member campaign. In 2013, she will continue to play an integral role in the association north of the border as chair of the Canada East Chapter’s membership committee, along with serving on the national membership committee, too.

“I’m really looking forward to being part of these committees this year to help grow our chapter in Canada and hopefully bring more Canadians to Convening Leaders each year,” Farrell says.
