About the Breakouts:  Participants select one of the following breakouts:

Breakout I:  How to Position Yourself for Internal Growth within Your Organization

Presenter: Dawn Penfold, President, Meeting Jobs, LLC

The landscape with which we work in has changed.  Moving up within your organization and in a stalled economy is one of the most challenging career aspects today.  Promotions are not just given.  Getting promoted happens when you get on the radar, get noticed and get rewarded for a job well done. This session will cover the best practices strategies that will get you ahead.

Breakout II:  Limited Human Resources and Increasing Expectations Don’t Match –How to Take a Fresh Look at Your Structure, Talent and Opportunities to Increase Productivity
Presenters:
James Goodman, CMP - Managing Vice President, Conference & Meeting Services, American Dental Association (ADA)

Judith Fleeks, CCP – Director, Talent, Compensation & Employee Relations, American Dental Association (ADA)

Will the expectation of “more with less” ever go away? Taking several steps back and answering tough questions such as: Is your current staff structure appropriate? How did it evolve? Who are the current players? What are their strengths? What talent is needed now and in the future? Are current methods for producing the necessary work product the most efficient?

Judi Fleeks and Jim Goodman will review the transformation of the Division of Conference and Meeting Services at the ADA as a case study of addressing these and other questions. They will provide a historical overview of the structure and its evolution. What goals and challenges dictated a different path and why/when “restructuring” is the right approach. They will illustrate how staff strengths were focused on and how a new strategy offered increased responsibility for many and more efficient output. They will show how careful consideration of outsourcing can save time and money and allow experts to handle the appropriate responsibilities. Finally, they will show the importance of a solid communications plan with new approaches and the importance of evaluating/measuring success.
